Engagement Photos at Kujukuri Beach | Sunset Photoshoot Near Tokyo

Summer is just around the corner in Japan — and what better way to celebrate than with a sunset photo session at the beach?

Today, I’d like to share a story from last summer: a couple photoshoot we did at Kujukuri Beach, one of my favorite beaches near Tokyo.

What is Kujukuri Beach?

Located in Chiba Prefecture, about 90 minutes by car from central Tokyo, Kujukuri Beach is a long, wide stretch of sandy coastline that faces the Pacific Ocean.

Unlike the smaller bays of Yokohama or the trendy beach spots around Shonan (like Enoshima and Kamakura), Kujukuri offers a more open, wild, and natural atmosphere — with fewer crowds and plenty of space to enjoy the sound of the waves.

In fact, the beach stretches for more than 60 kilometers, making it one of the longest in Japan. It’s popular for surfing, walking, picnics, and of course, beautiful sunset views.

Why Visit Kujukuri Beach for Photos?

If you’re traveling to Japan and love nature, Kujukuri is well worth the trip — especially for couples or honeymooners looking for a quiet and scenic place for photos.

Here are a few reasons why:

• It’s less touristy than other popular beaches

• You’ll find long, empty stretches of sand even in summer

• The sunsets here can be truly breathtaking, especially on clear days

• The open sky and wide beach make an incredible backdrop for natural couple portraits

Many beaches near Tokyo can feel crowded or busy — especially during peak seasons. But at Kujukuri, you can enjoy a much more relaxed and peaceful vibe.

A Summer Sunset Session

For this particular shoot, we started around 4:30 PM — as the heat of the day began to fade and the light turned soft and golden.

As the sun sank lower toward the horizon, the sky slowly transformed into dramatic shades of orange and pink.

By the time we reached the open beach just before sunset, it felt almost like that “magic hour” moment you see in films.

Walking barefoot on the sand, laughing together, watching the waves — it was a perfect way for this couple to capture their connection and create new memories through photos.
