To ensure everything goes smoothly, we recommend reaching out 2–3 months in advance. Together, we’ll plan your ideal location, timing, and the perfect way to make your proposal truly unforgettable.
A Proposal by Mt. Fuji – From Montreal to Kawaguchiko
In early August, we had the pleasure of photographing a surprise proposal for a lovely couple from Montreal, Canada. They were on a three-week adventure through Japan, and Lake Kawaguchiko—a scenic area near Mt. Fuji—was their final stop before heading to Tokyo.
Felix, the soon-to-be fiancé, dreamed of proposing with the iconic Mt. Fuji as the backdrop. However, as anyone who has visited the mountains of Japan knows, the weather here can be unpredictable. Even if you’re just a few kilometers away, Mt. Fuji may be completely hidden behind clouds.

I arrived at the planned location about 30 minutes early to scout the best angle and find a discreet hiding spot. But within minutes, heavy rain started to pour—more like a sudden typhoon than a passing shower. The forecast said it might stop in 30 minutes, but I didn’t want their special moment to happen in the mud.
So, I quickly suggested a backup plan.
I sent a WhatsApp message to Felix about changing the location to Ōishi Park, a nearby flower field with beautiful scenery even without Mt. Fuji in sight.
When the Rain Turned Into a Private Garden
Felix and his partner were arriving from Kawaguchiko Station by local bus, which was delayed about 20 minutes due to traffic. But it turned out fortunate that I had enough time to check a ideal spot for the proposal.
And even better, the rain stopped just as they reached the park.
I sent Felix instructions to guide them to a quiet, scenic corner of Ōishi Park—surrounded by lush greens and blooming flowers, even though Mt. Fuji was still hidden.
Normally, the park is full of visitors, but just after the storm, it felt like they had the entire place to themselves. It was the perfect moment to propose.
A Perfect Ending
After the proposal, we spent about an hour capturing their post-engagement session.
And then, as if the sky knew what had just happened, the clouds lifted—just five minutes before the session ended. Mt. Fuji finally revealed itself, offering the most breathtaking ending to a day full of love, surprises, and serendipity.
