Early blooming sakura in Kawazu

Spring is a season of new beginnings, and what better way to celebrate love than with a stunning wedding photo session surrounded by the breathtaking Kawazu Sakura? These early-blooming cherry blossoms paint the landscape with soft pink hues, creating a dreamy and romantic setting for unforgettable photos.

How is Kawazu sakura different from regular cherry blossoms?

There are some differences between regular sakura (cherry blossoms) and kawazu sakura.

Blooming Time

This is the most noticeable difference. Kawazu Sakura bloom much earlier, typically starting in early February, while Somei Yoshino, regular sakura usually bloom in late March to early April. This means Kawazu Sakura offer a chance to enjoy cherry blossoms well before the main season.  

Blooming Duration

Kawazu Sakura blossoms tend to last longer, often remaining in bloom for about a month, while Somei Yoshino are known for their fleeting beauty, often only lasting about a week.  

Every year, I worry that the cherry blossoms changes, but in that respect, the Kawazu sakura bloom for a long time, so there is a high chance that people from overseas will be able to see the cherry blossoms in full bloom.

Color

Kawazu Sakura tend to have a deeper, more vibrant pink color compared to the paler pink of Somei Yoshino.

You can view kawazu sakura at some parks in Tokyo, such as Shinjuku Gyoen garden, but the best place is Kawazu city, the town this sakura was discovered.

Last year, we drove with this Hong Kong couple for two and a half hours from Tokyo, to experience the sakura festival there. Along the river, you will be raws of cherry trees extend for abut 4 km, painting whole town a lovely pink.

Where can we see Kawazu cherry blossoms?

There are some areas that you can view Kawazu Sakura (cherry blossoms) around Tokyo, but relatively only a few trees.

Fi you want to see in large volume, must-to-go place is Kawazu City on the Izu about two hours south of Tokyo.

There are many places to see the cherry blossoms in Kawazu City. The most popular spot is the Kawazu Sakura Avenue, which is a 4-kilometer-long stretch of riverbank lined with cherry trees.

Another great thing about the Kawazu cherry blossoms is that they bloom alongside the rapeseed flower fields. This creates a stunning contrast of colors, with the pink cherry blossoms against the yellow rapeseed flowers.
